Working for the Work Weekend
HEYYYY!!! We missed you, sweet blogettes! We'll be popping in to give you a review of each day when camp is in session, but this blog is a little different because we're just here popping in and tell you about this weekend's work weekend! Work Weekend is when some Jabberwocky community members come over for the weekend to get camp all ready for the season. And ready it we did! We got so much done and we're really proud of it, so we'd love to tell you about it.
Our fantastic crew started to arrive on Friday afternoon ready to rumble. We planted, moved furniture, got rid of some pesky weeds, set up cabins, and more. By the time dinner was ready, we were fully prepared to devour the delicious burger bar before us. After dinner, we grabbed our much awaited Back Door Donuts and ventured off to Oak Bluffs to give some Jabberwocky love to the Flying Horses and grab our favorite Mad Martha's ice cream flavors. When it was time to roll back to camp, we hopped in the vans and snuggled up in our cabins for some much appreciated rest.
Then on Saturday we woke up with our game faces on and go getter attitudes like you've never seen. The full weekend crew arrived to eat breakfast, get to know each other, and talk through our hearty list of tasks. Then off we went, hitting the ground running. We did tons of work on the yard, the kitchen, the cabins, and beyond. We even made time before lunch for a hummus taste test and voted for our favorite caramelized onion hummus (niche but important) before digging into some delicious lunch to fuel us into the afternoon. Before heading back out, we chatted through some highlights of the morning and shouted out our team. We then got back to work, continuing until it was time for a much needed archery break. Who knew we all had such good aim? You can decide it that's actually true, but at least we all hit a bullseye on picking where to be for the weekend. And that's a fact!
After we got a little more work done, it was time for a delicious dinner of make your own bowls, featuring some of the best shrimp we've had in a while. And it was an extra special dinner to celebrate our work weekend birthday queens, Molly and Rachel! Since their birthday was on Sunday, we celebrated on Saturday night with some yummy ice cream cake and birthday vibes a flowin'. After cleaning up, some of us went back to snuggle in the cabins, some of us stayed in the main cabin to watch Princess Bride whilst noshing on popcorn and hot chocolate, and some of us hit up the pottery room to glaze pottery to be ready for camper arrival. Nothing like a pottery, tea and chat sesh to close off the day.
On Sunday, we woke up to celebrate Molly and Rachel's actual birthday with a yummy breakfast (shoutout to Martha's delicious and allergen friendly muffins) and finished up the last few projects of the weekend before everyone made their way back home to revel in our accomplishments and rest rest rest.
We want to thank EVERYONE for all their help and energy this weekend. Whether you were here checking off tasks on the to-do list all weekend or popping in throughout the day to see what needed to get done, it means everything. Seeing this community come together time and time again never ceases to amaze us. You are incredible and we are forever grateful.
Here we come June Fam Camp! And here's to a magical season ahead.
Love,
Camp
